L'evento
The route's link to Pellizza is illustrated by a painting commissioned and bought in 1892 by Emiliano Caffarone of Montemarzino for a votive chapel still standing below Caffaroni, towards Montemarzino.
For security reasons, the canvas was only occasionally displayed in the chapel. Nevertheless, it was stolen in 1927 and never recovered.
It is closely connected with the Holy Family held by Tortona's Il Divisionismo gallery. That painting was the first version, rejected by the commissioner as too unconventional for the required devotional style. The second version, of which no images survive, was the one bought in 1892 and later stolen.
The walk passes small chapels, fields and woodland, with views of the Tortona hills.
