This walking project was created to give people another reason to visit our beautiful area. We are even more motivated to invite you to walk it!
Why boats? There are at least four reasons.
History: millions of years ago the area was covered by the sea, and fossils can still be found among the vines.
Dialect and culture: the Piedmontese saying “c’me na borca ant’el bosch”, describing someone who feels out of place despite being comfortable, has been adapted to mean “like a boat in the vineyards”.
Surreal scenery: on misty days the viewpoints make you feel as though you are surrounded by a sea of fog.
Everyday language: our hills are often called green seas or seas of vineyards.
